    Dental Insurance and Dental Implants

If I need a dental implant can I dental insurance to help with the cost?

I lost a tooth and would like to replace it with a dental implant. That is a big chunk of money. Will dental insurance help significantly with the price?

    Mary

    Dear Mary,

If you currently have a dental insurance policy, they will usually be willing to help with a small portion of the dental implant cost, though  it differs from policy to policy. Of course, every little bit helps. However, it will only  be a small portion. If you are looking to get an insurance policy so that you can afford a dental implant, that probably will not work out for you.

Most insurance plans have a waiting period from the time you sign up until you can get one of the high cost procedures covered. Then, again, even when it is covered, it will only be a small portion of the cost.

Many dentists will not ask you to pay for the entire dental implant procedure up front. It is often done in two stages. In the first stage you will pay for the implant surgery. Then, later, you will pay for the restoration part of the procedure. This will help you save up for a little bit at a time.

You could also try to find a more affordable dentist. They will have strategies or recommendations that may help you with cost management of your dental care.
